The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi witnessed a one-sided affair as the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) thrashed the Delhi Capitals (DC) by a massive 67 runs in match 35 of the 2024 IPL season.
Match Summary
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first. SRH openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, got off to a flying start, capitalizing on the Powerplay overs. Head, in particular, was unstoppable, smashing a blistering knock of 98 runs off just 54 balls. Sharma ably supported him with a well-made 72.
The middle order continued the momentum with valuable contributions from Aiden Markram (38) and Heinrich Klaasen (29). SRH posted a mammoth total of 266 runs on the board, losing just seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Delhi's Futile Chase
Chasing a daunting target, the DC batsmen struggled from the outset. Openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner (back in the playing XI) were dismissed cheaply. Wickets fell at regular intervals, with only Rishabh Pant (42) and Axar Patel (37) showing some resistance.
The SRH bowling attack, led by Pat Cummins (2/29) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/32), did a commendable job, restricting the DC batsmen and bowling them out for 199 runs in the 19th over.
Travis Head Deservedly Bags Player of the Match Award
For his match-winning knock, Travis Head was deservedly awarded the Player of the Match trophy. His aggressive batting display at the top of the order set the tone for SRH's dominant performance.
SRH Move Up the Points Table
With this convincing victory, SRH consolidate their position in the top four of the IPL 2024 points table. Meanwhile, DC's struggles continue, and they find themselves precariously placed in the lower half of the standings.
Looking Ahead
Both teams will now look to regroup and bounce back in their upcoming matches. SRH will be aiming to maintain their winning momentum, while DC
